The Space Cube is the world’s smallest personal computer. The unbelievably minuscule cube (2 x 2 x 2.2 inch case) packs 300 MHz CPU and 64 MB of SDRAM. The Space Cube offers a healthy number of ports, including USB, Ethernet, flash memory, monitor port, Space wire, serial connection, and microphone. This micro PC runs on a Linux named Atom Linux. Shimafuji, the manufacturer of the Space Cube, has recently released the SEMC5701A, which is slightly smaller than its predecessor.
The SEMC5701A is named Teacube and is built around an NEC Electronics VR5701 processor clocked at 266 or 333MHz. The Teacube includes 16 MB of Flash memory and 64 MB of SDRAM. The external video connector supports up to 1208x1024 resolution with 65K colors. Lineo Solutions’ Vr5701 patch enable the T-cube to run embedded Linux. The tiny pc is also offered in various colors. The Japanese have truly assembled a personal computer that fits in your pocket.
I'd highly recommend my brother use one of these to run his shuttlecraft project rather than a C=64 (Commodore 64). The company offers the schematics for all of their miniature PCs to help developers and hobbyist integrate them into their projects. I've posted the schematic to this particular PC.
Stop laughing! Look, It's got ethernet, it's got USB, it's got serial, it's got audio in and out, it runs linux, that means it's immediately useful as a little usb printer server, or all sorts of remote serial applications, or for hiding in amongst your hifi gear to stream MP3s to it, or to plug into the USB on your Topfield 5800 PVR so you can copy your recordings across the network and upload TV guide stuff. You could plug a USB ADSL modem into it and use it as an ADSL router / firewall. A USB camera will turn this into a networked security camera or webcam. The possibilites are almost limitless.
USA List Price: $325 each
